After studying urushi lacquer at Kyoto City University of Arts, the artist joined a lacquer workshop with a history spanning over 230 years, where they continue to work as a skilled artisan alongside their independent artistic practice.

While urushi possesses an inherent beauty in itself, its character can be transformed through its interaction with other materials and through different methods of application, revealing a remarkable range of textures and expressions. Through both artworks and functional objects, the artist seeks to share the richness and possibilities of this traditional material with a wider audience.

Just as layers of urushi are built up one upon another, people are shaped by the accumulation of their experiences. With each layer, something gradually emerges—an ambiguous yet deeply personal sense of individuality. Exploring this process of becoming, the artist creates works centered on the subtle and endearing qualities that make each person uniquely themselves.
