RepeatWhat is depicted is more than mere lines or words; it is an accumulation of time and physical gesture. Drawing a single line, weaving a single word—in themselves, these are nothing more than modest repetitions. Yet through their layering emerges a "field" and a "structure" that could arise in no other way. The expressions dwelling within these works possess an organic depth, carrying the sense of something nurtured rather than merely constructed. A melody radiating outward from a vivid orange core; the silence of words etched into deep, quiet indigo darkness; the lingering resonance of inverted lines curving gracefully into swirls; and the stillness of layered colors painting horizontal strata of time. Each small brushstroke builds upon the next, turning into pattern, and elevating into a singular presence. We trace this expansion of time and the quiet miracle of repetition.

MottledFragments of expression where color and pattern overlap, each weaving its own distinct world.We present a selection of works carrying the nuance of "mottled" patterns, expanding in various forms while tracing the very presence of living creatures. A world where color and motif slowly fill the contours of each being. A pufferfish enveloped in white spots floating through water; an owl whose feathers are painted with geometric fragments of color; a turtle sinking its shell into a fiery red backdrop. Alongside them are birds stretching their layered wings in procession, and a figure standing quietly amidst sharp wings and heavy textures. The layered patterns give rise to the unique presence held within each creature. These patterns and shades sometimes blur the boundaries of shape, and at other times define them with bold force. The interplay of subtle gradients and varying densities creates a quiet resonance, revealing the multifaceted expressions hidden within layers of life. As these scattered colors and motifs overlap, they gently draw the viewer's gaze into deeper engagement.

Memories in Light and HueThis edition of “Curator’s Pick” is a collaboration with THE OBSESSION GALLERY, which introduces contemporary Impressionist painters from Japan and abroad. We present the works of French artist Marie Rauzy, the great-great-granddaughter of master painter Paul Cézanne, who seamlessly weaves techniques refined at the prestigious École des Beaux-Arts with a distinct contemporary sensibility. This issue’s theme is “Memories in Light and Hue.” Floating within fluid, sweeping backgrounds are cats, bouquets, still lifes, dreaming young girls, and outstretched hands. Rendered with meticulous yet soft brushstrokes, these motifs craft a world both dreamlike and serene. Across these canvases, a vivid brilliance of light and color merges with an abstract spatial silence—as if intimate moments of daily life are quietly dissolving into memory. Halting the rush of time, the work evokes a deep sense of quietude and emotion, unfolding a rich dimension within the painted realm.
